Fonseca wins first ATP 500 title in Basel, Davidovich Fokina’s drought continues

Joao Fonseca ends the season just as hot as it started.
There were some rocky types in between – and understandably so for a 19-year-old – but Fonseca went down the stretch like a gang after winning the biggest title of his career on Sunday. Brazil Beat Alejandro Davich Fokina 6-3, 6-4 in the Swiss Indoors Basel Final, cruising to victory in one hour and 26 minutes.
It is the second double for Fonseca, who previously won at the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires. His 500 points from Basel will propel him to a career high of No. 28, all but found a characterful place in open Australia.
“It’s crazy,” Fonseca said during the trophy ceremony. “I want to thank my family and my coaches who helped me achieve this amazing effort. They just came from Paris and came to Paris and came to play with them here in the game.” I am very happy. “
As for Davide Fokina, he is now 0-5 lifetime in ATP Finals – with his aggressive streak coming this season. The 26-year-old Spaniard lost more games after capturing five points including the Championship (two in Debary Beach, three in Washington, DC).
The consolation is that Davidevich Fokina has risen to the highest level of career No. 15 in the world.
