Canadian players Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov advance to the quarterfinals of the Swiss Indoor Championship

Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime continued their solid fall campaigns on Thursday.

The Canadians won their respective matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the Swiss Indoors.

Shapovalov, the ninth seed from Richmond Hill, Ontario, defeated the lucky loser Valentin Royer of France 7-6(3), 6-2 in the second round.

Auger-Aliassime, the fifth seed from Montreal, defeated Croatian veteran Marin Cilic 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2).

Shapovalov is coming off a semifinal in Stockholm, while Auger-Aliassime won the European Open in Brussels last week.

Shapovalov will next face Brazilian João Fonseca, ranked 46th in the world.

Auger-Aliassime will next face the winner of the match between second seed Ben Shelton of the United States and Jaume Munar of Spain.
