Victoria Mboko, Canada’s French Open was beaten by China Zheng in the third round

Canada’s hopes for France’s open singles championship are over.

Junior Victoria Mboko defeated Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng 6-3, 6-4 in the third round of Roland-Garros on Friday, making her the final round of five Canadians.

Mboko, 18, had previously won 10 straight games in his second Grand Slam match this season, including three qualified matches.

But the Eight Seed Zheng is proven too much in her main debut to overcome.

Mboko of Toronto failed to record the ace and wore it three times. Meanwhile, Zheng took advantage of all four breakthrough opportunities she had, while Mboko only had two out of eight.

Zheng will next face Russia’s 19th seed, Liudmila Samsonova.

Nevertheless, Mboko surpassed all four of her fellow Canadians. Felix Auger-Aliassime and Leylah Fernandez fell in the first round, while Denis Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo were eliminated in the second round.

Mboko is currently expected to rise to 89th in the world rankings, with 31 titles before the French Open. Next month, that might be enough to get her into Wimbledon’s main draw.

Kazakhstan’s Fernandez and teammate Yulia Putintseva will play the second round in the women’s doubles late Friday, while Diallo also competed in the men’s doubles with British partner Jacob Fearnley.
