Venus, Kouame among Miami Open wild card recipients

Miami Open tournament officials on Thursday announced the wild card recipients vying for the next 1,000-point event.
Among them is 45-year-old Venus Williams, who is a three-time champion in Miami. Williams began her latest comeback to tennis last summer in Washington, DC and has made five appearances this season – Auckland, Hobart, Melbourne, Austin, and Indian Wells. He has yet to win a game in 2026.
Sloane Stephens is another veteran and former Miami champion (2018) who was given a wild card. Stephens and Williams will be joined in the fourth WTA 1000 tournament of the season by Jennifer Brady, Taylor Townsend, Ashlyn Krueger, Lilli Tagger, Darja Vidmanova, and Emerson Jones.
On the men’s side, wild cards will go to Moise Kouame, Yibing Wu, Martin Damm, Darwin Blanch, and Rei Sakamoto.
Kouame just turned 17 on March 6. He made his ATP-level debut at the Montpellier 250 in February, qualifying for a major before losing to Aleksandar Kovacevic in three sets. The French player has won two Futures titles this year.
The 2026 Miami Open takes place March 15-29 at Hard Rock Stadium.
