Vancouver to host Davis Cup qualifier between Canada and Brazil

Tennis Canada announced Thursday that Vancouver will host Canada’s first-round Davis Cup qualifying match against Brazil.

The best-of-five tournament will be held Feb. 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Athletic Center on the University of British Columbia campus.

The winner will advance to the second qualifying round of the International Men’s Championship in September 2026.

Ninth-ranked Canada will face off against 18th-ranked Brazil, which has won 10 of its last 12 home games. The last time the two teams met was in the 2007 America’s Group One match, with the host Brazil winning 3-1.

Canada has won its last three Davis Cup matches in Vancouver, including an upset victory over Spain and Italy in the semifinals in 2013 and, most recently, a 3-2 victory over Japan in 2015.

Canada advanced to 2026 World Cup qualifying with a 4-0 victory over Israel in its first World Group match in September. The game in Halifax was played to an empty venue amid protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.

Canada won its only Davis Cup title in 2022, beating Australia in the final. They were relegated to the qualifiers after losing 0-2 to Germany in the quarter-finals of 2024, and were relegated to World Group 1 after losing 2-3 to Hungary in the first round of the 2025 qualifiers.
