Granollers, Zeballos wins open men’s doubles for our second year Grand Slam

NEW YORK – Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos won the U.S. Open men’s doubles title on Saturday, winning the second Grand Slam title of the season, with Joe Salisbury and Neeal Skupski and Neal Skupski 3-6, 7-6 (4) (4), 7-5.

The 5 seeds also won the French Open (also beat Salisbury and Skupsky), and after losing the first three finals, the long-term duo won the first two major titles.

“We’ve achieved results this year and I’m so happy to do it with him because we’re working hard,” Granus said of his partner after winning the $1 million title with Zeballos.

They almost lost it, with the British duo leading three games 5-4 in the third set. But Granul and Zeballos won the next eight points, and ended up with the only break from the game when the Granollers tugs back to a open corner to lead 6-5.

Watch with Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and cheering from the exercise room, Granollers then sent it out.

Salisbury is trying to win his fourth U.S. Open men’s doubles title, winning three straight games against Rajeev Ram in 2021-23. He and Skupski then became regular partners this year, a close partner, but not very close. The U.S. Open is their fifth final this year and they have given up all finals.

“We will keep working hard and these finals will come in one day,” Skupski said.

The nervous finals – Granul and Zeballos have a total of 98-97 points – make the winner beat No. 6 seed Salisbury and Skupski the third-largest Grand Slam win this year. They also won the Wimbledon quarterfinals showdown.

“Then why not let Australia be Australia,” Skupski looks forward to the next major. “We will go again and hope we have another great game.”
