The sinner gains immediate ground in Alcaraz at level 1

Having missed two Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami last year due to suspension, Jannik Sinner always had a great chance to pick up a ton of points throughout the 2026 Sunshine Double.
To say that Soni made the most of his opportunity would be a huge understatement. The Italian won both tournaments, following up his Indian Wells victory by beating Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in the final in Miami on Sunday evening.
Having added 2,000 points to his output, Sinner has moved behind Carlos Alcaraz at 1,190 for the No. 1 spot. The gap was 3,150 points before the start of the Indian Wells Masters.
Sinner and Alcaraz surprisingly haven’t faced each other this season, but their ongoing back-and-forth battle for the top spot is never ending. There may be another changing of the guard soon because Alcaraz has 4,300 points to defend from now through the French Open. The sinner is defending just 1,950 – including one until the Rome Masters in May.
Alcaraz lost in the semi-finals of Indian Wells to Daniil Medvedev and in the third round of Miami he was beaten by Sebastian Korda.
