Huang became the first Hong Konger to win a Grand Slam singles match in the Open Era

NEW YORK – Coleman Wong is the first player in Hong Kong to win a men’s singles match in the Grand Slam since the opening era began in 1968.

Wong defeated Aleksander Kovacevic in the first round of the U.S. Open on Monday. He won 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (4) in less than 2.5 hours.

The 21-year-old ranked 173rd on the ATP Tour and made his grand slam debut. He finished second in Flushing Meadows, Australian Open, Wimbledon and French Open.

Huang will face Australia’s Adam Walton in the second round.
