stakusic Waters rain delays, rally beats Kudermetova of Guadalajara Open

Marina Stakusic of Canada advanced to a wild women’s singles match at the Guadalajara Open in Mexico on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario defeated 22-year-old Russian Polina Kudermetova 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a rainy WTA 500 match, and took two hours and 29 minutes to complete.
Stakusic fell 3-1 in the final, but reorganized, rally and entered the rain delay tied 4-4. She won the last two games after the match resumed to end the match.
Kudermetova completed before Stakusic in ACE (5-3), and double failure (14-9) and unmand error (33-30).
Stakusic won 66 in the first installment. She also won 8 out of 13 points and saved 6 out of 14 breakout points.
Stakusic will play Latvia’s third-seed Jelena Ostapenko in 16 rounds on Wednesday.
Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino faces Italy’s Martina Trevisan later Tuesday in a match scheduled for Monday.
