Toronto – Canada’s Dan Martin defeated Spain’s Jaume Munar 6-3, 6-0 in the National Bank Open tennis match on Monday.

The 26-year-old Martin was the main draw in the qualifiers after defeating Japan’s Taro Daniel on Saturday.

Martin ranked 560th in the world, with no chance of ace or breaking points in Monday’s defeat, winning just 40% of his first place.

Munar ranked 51st in the world, launching six aces without double faults in an hour and 10 minutes. He also won five of 10 chances while winning 86% of his first-place score.

The Spaniard will next face Francisco Cerundolo, the 14th seed in Argentina.

Liam Draxl of Newmarket, Ontario will face France’s Arthur Rinderknech later Monday as Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain and Alexis Galarneau of Laval, Quebec.
