Sinner vs. Bublik, de Minaur vs. Umetti

Jannik Winner and Alexander Bublik will continue their rivalry in 2025 when they meet again in the Vienna Quarterfinals on Friday. Alex de Minaur and Matteo Berrettin are also aiming for a place in the final race.
(1) Jannik Sinner vs. (8) Alexander Bublik
The sinner is just on a roll right now. The second-ranked Italian did not lose a match for anything other than retirement because of the US open, an extension that included the title in Beijing and the second victory following the Kings Slam showdown. The sinner has been outstanding so far in the Ersteri Bank opener, apologizing to both Daniel Altmarier and Flavio Cobolli in straight sets.
Up with the top seed in the Quarterfinal Friday is the eighth showdown against Bublik, including their fourth this season. Sinner leads the head-to-head series 5-2 despite falling to the Russian giants who worked in Russia on the grass courts of Halle a few months ago. The 24-year-old preceded that French open result and recently humiliated Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 at the US open. Bublik, who advanced in Vienna with defeats to Alejando Tabilo and Francisco Cerindowso, should obviously be more competitive on Friday … but that’s not saying much.

(3) Alex de Minaur vs Matteo Berrettini
De Minaur and Berrettini will be playing for the fifth time in their careers at the ATP Level (sixth time overall) on Friday. Surprisingly, Berrettini leads the head series 3-1 in the main tour (3-2 ONGOLL) after the frequent 6-3, 7-6 (7) this year Mami Masters. De Minaurs’ last win in this match comes with an almost identical 6-3, 7-6 (4) scoreline in the 2022 ATP Cup.

Revenge of the Miami result could be on the cards, as Berrettini has failed to sustain any momentum since then due to physical problems. In fact, this is the terwerfinal appearance recorded for 59 Berrettini booked his place in the last eight by beating alexei popyrin and cameron norrie, while De Minaur was beaten by Jurij Rodionov (6-4, 6-1) and Filip Menolic (6-4, 6-4). It doesn’t help that Berrettini needed three hours and 16 minutes to survive his 7-6 (6), 6-7 (9-9 (9), 6-4) upset of Norrie.
