Madrid – Casper Ruud overcomes a rib disease to defeat Francisco Cerundolo in a row and reaches the Madrid Open final on Friday.
Ruud received treatment in three matches of the Ribs and beat Cerundolo 6-4, 7-5 at Caja Magica Center Court.
The No. 15 Norwegian saved him 15 of his 18 breakout points against Argentina.
Ruud is the former world number two and will return to the top ten due to his campaign in Madrid.
He will play against the finals in the sixth-ranked Jack Draper or 11th-ranked Lorenzo Musetti, who meets in another semifinal later Friday.
Coco Gauff and top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka will meet in Saturday’s women’s final.
