Branstine

Canada’s Carson Branstine booked her spot in the home game of the First Professional Grand Slam, while Victoria Mboko bowed with courage in the qualifying round at Wimbledon on Thursday.
Branstine defeated Cyprus’ Raluca Georgiana Serban 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the final round of the Grass-Court Tennis Championship.
The 24-year-old fired Serban 48 winners, who also encountered 10 double failures.
Branstine, a Californian native who represents Canada through family relations in Toronto, also canceled Roland Garros semifinals and Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ontario in the first two qualified rounds.
Meanwhile, Mboko defeated Australia’s Priscilla Hon 6-1 after failing to take advantage of five match points in the second set.
An 18-year-old man from Toronto hit 11 double faults and 4 A. She also converted only 5 of the 17 breakpoint opportunities.
Mboko entered the third round of the French Open in May and would have to wait for her second Grand Slam unless attracted as a lucky loser.
