The epic matchup at LopSops will add another chapter when Jannik Donner and Alex de Minaur meet again in the Semis of the NITTO ATP Finals on Saturday afternoon.
The sinner has won all 12 of his previous matches and is an incredible 2-2 complete sets against De Minaur. They met again at this event 12 months ago, with the Italian cruising to a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Their most recent showing on the hard courts of Vienna a few weeks ago led directly to a 6-3, 6-4 scoreline.
It is difficult to predict any kind of different result on Saturday. The sinner is simply too good. World 2 2 did not attend his round robin group, clearing Felix auger-Alias -Ime, Alexander zveree, and Ben Shelton all straight sets. The elusive champion last year in Turin, the sinner now boasts an eight-match streak at the prestigious event. He is 13-2 lifetime at the Nitto ATP Finals, including an attempt to run in 2023 (lost to Novak Djokovic).
This could be the end of the de minaur road, and what it was like when there was someone blowing through the Inalpi Arena. The seventh-ranked Australian appeared to be on the fast track out of Turin when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (5), 6-2. Needing to win her final round robin match in straight sets to have a chance at the genetics, De Minaur did just that on Thursday – sweeping Taylor Fritz 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Physically, de minaurs is apparently fine even though it is an uphill battle to get out of his team. However, it was an emotional ride, and he had to take something from himself. His obvious block against the sinner is also useless.
Count the sinner down the court immediately before Sunday’s great Findale – possibly against Alcaraz.
