Kyrgios gets a wildcard for the season-opening tournament in Brisbane

The Brisbane International announced last week that Nick Kyrgios had received a main-draw wild card.

Kyrgios has played just five matches in the entire 2025 campaign. He entered two events during the Australian summer (Brisbane and Australia) before taking the court in Indian Wells and Miami. The 2018 Brisbane champion is ranked 671 in the world.

“Nick has been a long-time crowd favorite in Brisbane and will be a great addition to the fans,” tournament director Cameron Pearson said. “He is a player on the rise in the big leagues. I am delighted to welcome him to Brisbane and can’t wait to see him perform in front of a passionate home crowd.”

Kyrgios will also play doubles in Brisbane with fellow Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis. They won the Australian Open together in 2022.

This ATP 250 event continues on January 5, covering Week 1 of the 2026 ATP season. Others on the shortlist are Daniil Medvedev, Tommy Paul, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Jiri Lehecka, Denis Shapovalov, Joao Fonseca, Frances Tiafoe, and Grigor Dimitrov.

Kyrgios also has a Battle of the Sexes match against Aryna Sabalenka in her upcoming show, which is set for Sunday night.
