National Bank Open: Mboko, Canada

Can Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko continue her incredible run? We’re going to find out.

The 18-year-old from Burlington, Ontario, will play the quarterfinals against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Spain, after Mboko’s major frustration with Coco Gauff, two nights at the National Bank Open in Rogers. Their game will be Montreal’s second game that night, the first time starting at 6 p.m. ET.

Mboko was the last one in Canada to stand in her national open, the only Canadian in a victory over Gauff, the biggest discomfort in her young career. She started the year at No. 337, then won four straight wins on the ITF Challenger Tour, debuted at the French Open, and won the match there with Wimbledon.

Now, Mboko is planning unhappy after being frustrated with local soil in the 1000 event, while World No. 85 hopes to maintain this streak of victory, keeping it incorrectly against World No. 51 Bouzas Maneiro. Although Bouzas Maneiro won only one WTA 125 title, Espanyol won No. 9 Emma Navarro earlier this season in France’s open No. 9 Emma Navarro.

Mboko rode high high after taking the world second in front of her country’s sold-out crowd, and her success in Montreal means a top 50. As Mboko said SportsNet Before the NBO began: “I never thought I would be here a few months ago.”

Now, she is here, only three wins from the Canadian Open.

Toronto’s No. 1 is still here

Toronto’s men’s draw will play the quarter-finals between a pair of former NBO champions.

The game will be ranked No. 1 in Alexei Popyrin (18th Seed) at 7 p.m. ET.

Zverev is the 2020 Olympic gold medalist, third in the world and second in the third Grand Slam. The German faces Poplin’s defending NBO title, who won his first (so far) 1,000 title in Montreal last season.

Meanwhile, Zverev won the NBO in 2017, beating Big Roger Federer in two sets.
