Milos Raonic announces his retirement from professional tennis

Milos Raonic announced his retirement from professional tennis on Monday. Raonic, 35, has not played since the 2024 Paris Olympics. Although his career has been hampered by injuries, the Canadian rose to world No. 3 and finished runner-up to Andy Murray at Wimbledon in 2016.

“The time has come, I’m quitting tennis,” Raonic wrote on social media. “This is the moment you know will come one day, but somehow you never feel ready for it. This is as ready as I’ll ever be. Tennis has been my love and passion for most of my life.

“I’ve been the lucky person to get to live and achieve my dreams. I had to show up every day and focus on getting better, seeing where that would take me, and playing the sport I was introduced to by pure luck at the age of 8. In a way, this became my focus

“Thank you to the amazing fans I got to compete and train in front of the whole world. They saw me stand out and control difficult moments on the field. They saw me grow. I thank everyone who stopped, even for a moment, to watch me and support me.”

In addition to his 2016 Wimbledon result, Raonic reached two other Grand Slam semifinals and seven other quarterfinals. He has won eight ATP titles, including the 2014 Washington, DC tournament.
