Medvedev’s return sets up a Tien showdown

The Australian Open match between Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien is set.
In last year’s second round, Tien stunned Medvedev in the fifth set – without doubt one of the matches of the tournament. The second chapter will enter the fourth round after Medvedev and Tien won their third round matches in very different fashion on Friday.
Tien advanced first, surviving a wild first set before cruising past Nuno Borges 7-6(9), 6-4, 6-2. Medvedev took a roundabout route, coming back from two sets down and in the third he defeated Fabian Marozsan 6-7(5), 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, 6-3.
The 29-year-old Russian giants marked their first comeback from a two-set deficit in the entire tournament.
“You played well,” said Medvedev during his interview in court. “I said, ‘If I lose, I fail, but I’ll just try, I’ll fight.’ I tried to find it a little bit because he was shaking me around. It was able to work. I started playing better, so I’m happy about it.”
Carlos Alcaraz and Tommy Paul have also improved and will go head-to-head on Sunday.
