Medvedev ends the title drought, Outlasts Moutet in Almaty

Daniil MedveveveV’s title drought will finally be over.
For the first time since the 2023 reign in Rome, Medvedev lifted a medal on the ATP Tour when he defeated Korean Moutet 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in Almaty in the state opener on Sunday evening. It was exactly 882 days since the victory of Rome.
Medvedev won in a back-to-back and final bout that lasted two hours and 29 minutes. It also avenged Moutet’s recent loss in the Washington, DC Quarterfinals – a circus of a match won by the French counterpart 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
“Good,” Medvedev assured. “I wasn’t very happy with how I played in other moments of the game, but the victory feels amazing. The last game I was on fire and I’m happy to win the title.”
That’s right; All 21 Russian titles have come in different competitions. The same event is never won twice.
Medvedev had lost twenty-six since last winning the title, including runner-up performances at the 2023 open, the 2024 Australian open, and the 2024 Wells Masters. The 29-year-old was a runner-up in Vienna at the end of the 2023 season. He will return to that tournament next week, joining a field full of Jannik Sonner, Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, Lorenzo Musetti, and Alexander Bublik.
