Medvedev beats injured Grikspur to win Dubai title

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Daniil Medvedev won his 23rd ATP singles title at the Dubai Championships on Saturday after Talon Grikspoor withdrew from the final due to injury.

Grikspoor injured his left hamstring against Andrei Rublev on Friday and won both sets in the semifinals but was unable to recover in time for the final.

“I definitely performed better,” the Dutchman said at the awards ceremony. “I went to hospital this morning and had a couple of scans and the results showed something serious. It’s keeping me out tonight and will keep me out for the next few weeks.”

Medvedev won his second title of the year, following Brisbane in January. This is also his second Dubai title after winning in 2023. This is the first time he has won the same event twice.

“That’s the crazy thing about it,” Medvedev said. “I’d never done anything like this in any city in the world, and the first time I did it, it was just a walk through.”
