Mboko eliminates Alessandrova in the first round of Wuhan Open

Canada’s Victoria Mboko lost 6-3, 6-2 to Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-2 to Wuhan Open Tennis Championships 6-3, 6-2.

Alexandrova is Wuhan’s eighth seed, breaking Mboko four of eight chances and winning 56% of the total score when the match ends in an hour and 20 minutes.

Mboko is ranked 24th in the world and now loses three consecutive games after winning her first professional WTA title in Montreal’s 1000 Series National Bank Open.

Her season record dropped to 53-12.

The 19-year-old from Toronto started with an unbeaten streak of 22 shots in the lower ITF track and then successfully jumped to the top of women’s tennis.

Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Quebec faces Japan’s Naomi Osaka in the first round of the WTA 1000 Championship Tuesday morning (Monday night).
