Lindsay Davenport re-signs with Billie Jean King Cup Team USA captain for two years

Lindsay Davenport has signed a two-year contract extension to remain captain of the U.S. team at the Billie Jean King Cup, the United States Tennis Association announced Tuesday.

Davenport led Team USA to the finals of this year’s team competition, their first time there since 2018. Team USA lost to Team Italy.

Davenport becomes captain in 2024. As a player, she helped the United States win three championships in 1996, 1999 and 2000.

She won three Grand Slam singles titles, was ranked No. 1 in the WTA rankings, and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2014.

“It’s been an incredible honor to serve as captain of the U.S. Billie Jean Cup, and I’m excited and honored to continue to do so, especially during such a glorious period for U.S. women’s tennis,” Davenport said.

With Coco Gauff in third, Amanda Anisimova in fourth, Jessica Pegula in sixth and Madison Keys in seventh, this season marked the first time since 2004 that four American women finished in the year-end top 10.

At the time, Davenport was ranked No. 1, tied with Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Jennifer Capriati.

Team USA will compete in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers in April.
