Jannik Sinner Downs Daniel Altmaier starts Shanghai Masters Championship Defense

Shanghai – Jannik Sinner made a solid start in the Shanghai Masters title defense, defeating Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday, avenging his losses at the French Open two years ago.
The victory extended the second-ranked Sinner’s streak to six games after Wednesday’s China Open Championship in Beijing.
“I know it’s going to be very difficult before the game,” Sinner said. “I don’t have a lot of time to get used to it. But that makes it even more special.”
Sinner has not played Altmaier since the German beat him in Roland Garros’ second round in 2023.
Sina’s third round opponent will be Tallon Griekspoor, who leads 6-0 in the professional meeting.
The highest-ranked Carlos Alcaraz withdraws troops from Shanghai due to a left ankle injury.
When asked about adjusting from Beijing to Shanghai, Sina said, “Everything is different. It’s more wet and feels more physical here.” “I’m trying to rest. But it’s hard after winning the championship. You have to maintain a good balance of practice. Obviously, the priority now is to let me do my best on the next next body.”
