Holger Ruhn confirms he will need Achilles tendon surgery

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Holger Ruhn said Sunday he will miss “some time” with an Achilles tendon injury that will require surgery.

World number 11 Rooney limped off the court and retired with an injury against Hugo Humbert during Saturday’s Nordic Open semi-final in Stockholm. He leads 6-4, 2-2.

“It will be a while before I can step on the pitch again. It’s tough. I had a lot of fun on the pitch in Stockholm and the thought that I won’t be able to feel that energy for a while is unbearable,” he posted on Instagram.

The 22-year-old Dane said he suffered a “complete proximal fracture” of his Achilles tendon and will require surgery next week.

Rooney has reached the Grand Slam quarterfinals three times, ranking as high as fourth.
