Granollers, Martinez help Spain defeat Germany and reach Davis Cup final

BOLOGNA, Italy — Spain reached the Davis Cup finals with doubles pair Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez, who beat German pair Tim Putz and Kevin Kravitz 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in Saturday’s semifinals to win 2-1.
Alexander Zverev kept the German hopes alive with a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) victory over Jaume Munnar after Pablo Carreño Busta gave Spain a win over Jan-Leonard Straff.
Carreño Busta saved five consecutive set points in the decider to defeat the German veteran 6-4, 7-6 (6).
But Granollers and Martinez stunned Putz and Kravitz, who lost the Davis Cup for the second time.
That brings Spain back to the final for the first time in six years without injured No. 1 goalkeeper Carlos Alcaraz.
Spain will face two-time defending champion Italy, who defeated Belgium on Friday.
