Canada’s Gabriel Diallo defeated France’s Benjamin Bonzi 6-4, 6-4 in the Shanghai Masters Tennis Championship on Thursday, 6-4.
The Montreal native fired four ACs with two double faults and converted a quarter of a breakpoint opportunity in the game.
Bonzi has seven double-breaking aces and there is no chance of breaking through points at once.
Diallo is the second round of goodbye to the 31st seed in the game.
Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, the 12th seed, will occupy Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in the second round on Friday.
Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ontario, the 23rd seed, will face Australia’s Christopher O’Connell on Friday, with his eyes set on the third round.
