Felix auger – Aliassime flew over Andrey Rublev to our quarterfinals

Another magical moment for Canadians may be in production at the U.S. Open.

Felix Auger-Aliassime beat Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 to Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens

It marks the second fifth time in the U.S. Open at Auger Aliassime, second only to his 2021 semi-final match, when he lost to Daniil Medvedev in a blunt game.

The 25th seed Canadian will face the 8th seed Australian Alex de Minaur, who defeated Swiss wildcard Leandro Riedi 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 on Monday.

Auger-Aliassime, 25, of Montreal, did not surpass the second round in the second round before the Flushing Meadows this year.

But he seems to have found his groove after Alexander Zverev’s frustrated third Alexander Zverev and now swept the 15th seed Rublev.

Early in the first set against the Russians, Oslide-Aliassime lagged behind the break but broke Rublev again in Game 15 of the game to avoid a final.

He gave his all.

A pair of Canadian women have made a breakthrough in the U.S. Open in recent years, with Bianca Andreescu defeating Serena Williams in the 2019 final and two years later Leylah Fernandez competed in the championship game.

Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand partner Erin Routliffe won the 2023 Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Late Monday, the pair will face Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and US Nicole Melichar-Martinez in 16 rounds, while Fernandez and teammate Venus Williams took Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova and China’s Zhang Shuai.
