Auger-Aliassime, Mboko lead Canada to victory over China in Confederations Cup

Félix Auger-Aliassime and Victoria Mboko continue their work to kick off the 2026 tennis season.
Auger-Aliassime and Mboko led Team Canada to a 3-0 win over China in the Fed Cup mixed team round-robin on Sunday.
The men’s fifth-ranked Auger-Aliassime defeated Zhang Zhizhen 6-4, 6-4, and the women’s No. 18 Mboko caught up from one set behind and defeated Lin Zhu 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Subsequently, the two Canadian pairs partnered in the mixed doubles match and defeated You Xiaodi and Ziglert 6-1, 6-3.
Auger-Aliassime reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open, won the ATP 250 title at the Fortis European Open in Brussels, and then reached the semifinals of the ATP Finals until the end of last season.
The 25-year-old from Montreal won the season opener for the first time since 2021.
“I’m very happy with my first game of the year,” Auger-Aliassime said. “Tennis is about rhythm, hitting big points under pressure, so you never know what’s going to happen. I woke up this morning hoping for the best, and I played some of my best tennis.”
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Mboko made a breakthrough last season from outside the top 300 into the top 20.
She won the WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Montreal and ended the 2025 Hong Kong Open on a five-match winning streak.
Canada next faces Belgium in the Confederations Cup group stage on Tuesday. The competition ends on January 11th.
