Valentin Vacherot and Alex Michelsen will be facing each other for the first time in their careers when they square off in the first round of the Delray Beach Open on Monday afternoon.
Vacherot made a name for himself last season with a shocking run to win the Shanghai Masters title supported by a quarterfinal match in Paris. This year, however, he is just 3-3 in three tournaments (Brisbane, Adelaide, and the Australian Open combined).
Michelsen is a tough first round matchup for the 6th seed. The 21-year-old American already boasts wins over Sebastian Korda, Learner Tien, and Grigor Dimitrov this season. In addition, Michelsen often plays his best tennis at home in the United States. All three of his ATP finals appearances have come in the US and he was a semi-finalist in the last 12 months at Delray Beach.
