Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios wins first victory in 2 1/2 years

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Nick Kyrgios won the game for the first time in nearly 2 1/2 years at the Miami Open Wednesday, beating Mackie McDonald 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 while his surgically repaired wrists wore thick beige tape, which he said was the Miba after he received five painkillers.

“I won’t lie: I’m just thinking about the past two years. Honestly, it’s cruel,” said Kyrgyz, who was second in Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon in 2022. And win one thing, but winning the game and executing is another. ”

The Australian turned 30 next month and has not been in the right end of the official match since October 2022, when he beat Kamil Majchrzak in a match in Tokyo before playing against Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals.

Since then, Kyrgios has needed surgery to tear ligaments on his wrists and knees, leaving him almost throughout the 2023 season (when he competes in singles) and 2024 seasons.

Kyrgios, one of the plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed by the player against tennis on Tuesday, began this year with a 0-3 record until Wednesday.

The lack of competition lowered him from a career high of 13th to No. 892 in the ATP rankings. Thanks to his protected ranking, he was able to enter Miami Stadium. He was a semi-finalist in this tough game in 2016 and 2017.

“I used to win a big win, so it’s normal, but I don’t think I can beat a solid player because I can’t hit a fluffy tennis ball,” Kyrgyz said. “It’s really surreal.”

McDonald’s is a Californian who eliminated Rafael Nadal at the 2023 Australian Open, who ranked 101st and qualified for a major draw at the Miami Open.

Kyrgios’ next move is a showdown against No. 22 seed Karen Khachanov, who was two Grand Slam semifinals.

They have played three times before, including a five-shot match at the 2020 Australian Open won by Kyrgios and won the championship won by Khachanov at the 2022 U.S. Open.

Kyrgyz smiled and said, “We grew up almost together through juniors. He is a crazy main force. So professional. Always show it. Kyrgyz smiled and said, “If I were to be the starting line, I would give him what I have.” But I can’t say this is what we look like between the two of us. ”
