Argentina’s Facundo Bagnis begins voluntary provisional doping suspension

LONDON – Argentinian tennis player Facundo Banes has chosen to begin a voluntary provisional suspension in an anti-doping case after testing positive for a diuretic and masking agent, the International Tennis Integrity Agency announced on Thursday.
Bagnis, 35, was put to the test in August when he competed in the U.S. Open qualifying tournament. His first-round loss was his sixth consecutive loss in Grand Slam qualifying.
In 2016, he reached a career-high No. 55 in the ATP rankings.
Barneys was notified of the result this month and elected to begin a provisional suspension last week. If he is ultimately suspended, the temporary suspension will count toward time served.
