Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand partner Erin Routliffe in the women’s doubles match at the Italian Open after losing to Russians Mirra Andra Andra and Diana Shnaider 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 on Wednesday.
The Russian couple had 10 breakthrough opportunities for top seeds Dabrowski and Routliffe and converted four.
Dabrowski and Routliffe converted three breakouts on five chances, but won only 50% of the total service points, compared with 61.4% of the opponent.
Andreeva earlier fell to Coco Gauff in the singles quarterfinals.
In the final of the Ruler, Dabrowski and Routliffe defeated Andreeva and Shnaider’s second 1000 series after falling to the Russians in the second round of the opening in Katar in February.
