American learner Tien played some of his best tennis last month. The teenager made the finals in Beijing and the round of 16 in Shanghai. He never got the title, but he’s getting closer and closer. Tien was knocked out of the US open in the first round, but had no problem drawing Novak Djokovic. He is already a player to watch, and if he continues this trend he will be a legitimate threat.

Tien and Rolex Paris Masters Rivals Andrey Rublev played twice earlier this year, both during the summer court thrave. They split and won each. The Russian has had a bitter streak of late. After his fourth exit from the US open, he had a zero win margin in the four tournaments played before Paris. Rublev is a higher level player and more experienced, but this is a successful tien game.

Jaume Munar vs. (11) Daniil medvevevev

It’s been a wild year for the former world No. 1 Daniil Medveveev. Russia’s status was sinking to No. 18 due to a shocking stretch in the majors, where he won just one game. However, he changed it this fall. Thanks to a couple of semifinals in Beijing and Shanghai and then his first title of the year in Almaty earlier this month, his ranking is back to No. 13.

Medvedev lost to Jaume Manar in March at the Miami Masters. Munar plays the kind of consistent tennis that usually gives medvevedev difficulty, but since the veteran’s form was off, few conclusions can be drawn from that match. Medvedev seems to be back on his game now, so he should be considered the clear favorite in Tuesday’s showdown.
