Canada’s Victoria Mboko advances to the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Open

Canada’s Victoria Mboko defeated Philippines’ Alexandra Eala 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Open.

The third seed Mboko hit 8 aces and broke Ella’s serve five times, scoring 67% of her first serve points.

The 19-year-old from Toronto will next face sixth seed Anna Kalinskaya of Russia.

Mboko joins fellow Canadian Leila Fernandez in the quarterfinals.

Fernandez, the tournament’s second seed, defeated Germany’s Eva Liss in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 on Wednesday to advance.

She will next face seventh seed Sorana Sistia of Romania.
