Canada’s Stakucic moves one step closer to Australian Open qualifying

Marina Starcusic took a major step towards qualifying for the Australian Open with a quick two-set victory over Serbian Teodora Kostovic in Melbourne on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., needed just 65 minutes to defeat Kostovich 6-0, 6-2.
The Canadian finished with one ace, 12 winners and seven unforced errors.
Kostovich didn’t serve any aces, had only two double faults and made 25 unforced errors.
Stakusic scored 79% of his first-serve points and 53% of his second-serve points. She also had a strong performance at the net, winning four of her five points in the match.
Stacusic defeated Spanish player Nuria Parisas Diaz 6-3, 6-2 in the first round and will face Chinese player Lin Zhu in the final round of qualifying.
