Canada’s M’Boko upsets Keith and advances to Adelaide semi-finals

Canada’s Victoria Mboko is once again in the semifinals.

The 19-year-old tennis prodigy from Toronto defeated American Madison Keys 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International Tennis Championships on Thursday.

Mboko, the eighth seed in the tournament, broke Keys’ serve early to win the first set, but was unable to compete with the defending Australian Open champion’s big serve in the second.

Keys, the second seed in the WTA 500 event, hit eight aces in the 1 hour and 53 minutes of play, including six in the second set alone.

The Canadian won 75 per cent of her first-serve points in the third set and converted her only break point.

She will now face Australia’s Kimberly Birrell in the semi-finals.

After a breakthrough season on the WTA Tour in 2025, Mboko will make her debut at the Australian Open later this month.

After winning the National Bank Open in Montreal, she was named WTA Rookie of the Year and improved her ranking from No. 333 at the beginning of the season to No. 18 at the end of the season.
