Canada’s Auger-Aliassime risks ATP Finals qualification as Metz withdraws

Canadian tennis star Felix Auger-Aliassime will withdraw from this week’s Mosel Open, a move that puts his health first but also puts his spot in the ATP Classic final at risk.

The 25-year-old from Montreal cited a knee injury as the reason for withdrawing from the Metz tournament in France, one of two ATP 250 events taking place this week.

Auger-Aliassime had just experienced a tough journey to the Paris Masters final, losing to world No. 1 Yannick Sinner with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4). He recovered from a set deficit in the first three games and played in five tiebreakers.

The result moved him up to eighth in the ATP rankings and overtaken Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the hunt for the ATP Finals singles final, which begins in Turin, Italy, on Sunday.

Musetti will compete in the Greek Championship in Athens this week, where he needs to win to regain his spot in the ATP Finals from Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime is 48-22 this year, has won three championships, and is back in the top eight for the first time since April 10, 2023.
