American teenager Tien

Acapulco, Mexico – American teenage learner Tien defeated top seed Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday

This is his second career defeat to the top five players. The 19-year-old from California defeated Daniel Medvedev (5) in the second round of the Australian Open when he entered the fourth round in January.

The left-handed Tien is the youngest player, winning the first two games against the top five opponents, behind Jimmy Connors’ second game.

Tien is the next Tomas Machac to play the eighth seed, who improved after defeating Daniel Altmaier 6-1 in 7-6 (3).

In recent South American matches, Zverev lost in the first round of Argentina and Brazil’s quarter-finals.

Three seed players were seen ill on the third day of the Acapulco game. One of them was Holder Rune (4), who beat him 3-0 in the first set against Brandon Nakashima.

Nakajima will face David Goffin, who beat US Ben Shelton 6-3.

“At the same time, anger and sadness. Rune said on X: “There is food poisoning and cannot compete today.” One of my favorite places in Mexico, I love this game. Definitely not the way I want it to end. ”

Tournament organizers have not said whether other retired players suffer from the same disease as Runes. The second seed Casper Ruud was also unable to fight against Rodrigo Pacheco, Mexico.

Another player who fell ill in Acapulco is the third seed of Tommy Paul, who quit before his match against Marcos Giron, giving his fellow countrymen a walk.

Giron will next play Denis Shapovalov, who beat Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-3.
