Alcaraz may face Fonseca in the first match

The Miami Open draw is out, and Monday afternoon’s event led to a potential second-round clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Joao Fonseca. That will come true if Fonseca beats Fabian Marozsan in the Brazilians’ opening match.
Alcaraz’s potential path to the finals includes Sebastian Korda in the third round, Karen Khachanov in the last 16, Taylor Fritz in the quarters, and Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur, Alexander Bublik, or Tommy Paul in the semis. The top-ranked Spaniard is coming off a semi-final in Indian Wells, where he fell to eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev.
Medvedev has a good draw in Miami, where he will avoid Jannik Sinner at least until the end and Alcaraz until the championship game. Sinner defeated Medvedev 7-6(6), 7-6(4) in the Indian Wells final on Sunday. In the bottom half of Miami’s bracket are Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton, and defending champion Jakub Mensik.
In addition to Fonseca vs. Marozsan, the first round matchups to watch are Ethan Quinn vs. Hubert Hurkacz, Denis Shapovalov vs. Botic van de Zandschulp, Grigor Dimitrov vs. Raphael Collington, and Gabriel Diallo vs. Yibing Wu.
