Tennis star Novak Djokovic among investors at French Football Club

Le Mans, France – Tennis star Novak Djokovic is part of a group of investors who have bought stakes in French second-tier football team Le Mans, as well as former format racers Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen, the club said Friday.

Le Mans said in a statement that they joined the club along with other new financial investors, including Georgios Frangulis, founder and CEO of Latin American sports investment firm Outfield and Oakberry. Frangulis is the boyfriend of three-time women’s Grand Slam champion Aryna Sabalenka.

“The uniqueness of this fund is also in its contribution,” Le Mans President Thierry Gomez said in a statement. “Novak Djokovic, Felipe Masa and Kevin Magnusen will be part of the adventure.”

No financial details were provided.

Djokovic is the owner of 24 Grand Slam titles recorded by the men.

The 38-year-old Serb has won 100 professional titles overall.

Masa won 11 games and won 41 podiums in his F1 career. While driving for Ferrari, the popular Brazilian was the whisker that won the 2008 championship, only letting Lewis Hamilton beat him with a dramatic result in the last match. Hamilton won 97 points with 98 points.

The 32-year-old disk drove nearly 200 games in F1, winning a podium and a pole position. But late last year, the Danish driver was not retained by Haas when his contract expired.

Le Mans Football Club, which celebrates its 40th anniversary, will begin its league campaign on August 9.

Le Mans – a small city in northwestern France – also hosts the famous 24-hour enduro racing car.
