Canada’s Fernandez is disappointed with the NBO’s short turnaround

Having won at the DC Open, Leylah Fernandez hopes to have more time to prepare for her first round of the National Bank Open offered by Rogers.

But after her victory in Washington, she was forced to open the game 24 hours after returning to Montreal to fight against Australia’s Maya Federation at a Tuesday morning meeting.

Fernandez and Joint played the final period of the first round of the showdown, with the second round starting at night.

“The WTA agreement means that the first round needs to be completed before the second round is played, ensuring fairness for all players involved.” “Given that Leylah won the championship in Washington on Sunday, she couldn’t arrive in Montreal until early Monday morning. As a result, the WTA decided to open her opening match in the latest possible first round.”

Fernandez eventually lost to United in a row (6-4, 6-1), showing obvious signs of fatigue in the defeat.

United won 24th place in the 24th minute Fernandez won 45th singles player in 75 minutes.

After the game, Fernandez told reporters she had promised that she would be able to compete in the first round on Tuesday night.

“I didn’t receive it,” she said. “It hurts me because I’m very much looking forward to playing at night, but I think there’s a bit of a political issue at that time.”

Fernandez said she and her team found that she would not compete the night before the DC Open final.

“The sleep schedule is a bit out of place, so it’s hard to recover,” she told SportsNielle Michaud.

Fernandez returned home from the United States at around 2 a.m. Monday and was required to attend her foundation, which was evacuated from her competition at 8 a.m. that morning.

Montreal’s National Bank Open Director Valérie Tétreault said she “had not won her own battle” to bring Fernandez’s game back to Tuesday’s evening meeting, citing the WTA agreement was the reason they were not suitable for Lavel. The locals became the slot later.

Tétreault said that with the DC Open final (WTA 500 event) and the main draws at the WTA 1000 National Bank Open, Tétreault said this type of crossover should not happen.

“The calendar should be made so that the 1000-level competition is preferred over the WTA 500, so we have to go back to the drawing table,” she said.
