German teenagers reach major milestone in Stuttgart

Stuttgart, Germany – Justin Engel, 17, became the youngest player since Boris Becker 40 years ago, played the quarterfinals of the final eight ATP Tour Grass-Court Championship at the Stuttgart Open on Thursday.
Engel defeated the seventh seed of the United States, Alex Michelson 6-4, 6-4, to become Stuttgart’s youngest quarterfinal ever. He is the youngest person to reach any pasture activity since Becker won Wimbledon as 17 in 1985.
Engel turned 18 in October and will face Canada’s FĂ©lix Auger-Aliassime on Friday.
It was an amazing 12 months for Engel, who made only the top 800 months in the rankings last July, entering the 1,344 season of the 2024 season. Now, he can guarantee a top 250.
Engel also became the second player since 1990 this week, behind Rafael Nadal, winning three surfaces (grass, clay and hard) on the tour.
