Victoria Mboko of Canada advances to the second round of France Open Qualifying

Paris – Rising tennis star Victoria Mboko qualified for his first professional Grand Slam MAIN draw in Tuesday’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Austria’s Sinja Kraus.
The 18-year-old from Toronto shot five ACEs on Roland Garros’ clay court while winning 79% of the first game, entering the second round of the three-round qualifying match.
Mboko took a break with a game – she was fifth in seven chances. She has a chance to break through the points in six of the nine return games.
Next, she will face Kathinka von Deichmann in Liechtenstein on Thursday. Von Deichmann beat Vancouver’s seventh seed Rebecca Marino 6-1, 6-0 to improve.
Mboko raised her record for the season to 38-5, with most of her wins on the ITF Lower World Tennis Tour.
She will finish second at WTA 125 Parma Ladies Open last week.
Mboko, who is ranked 122 in the world, is the only Canadian to qualify on Tuesday.
Romania’s Patricia Tig defeated Kayla Cross of London, Ontario in another women’s first round match, 6-4, 6-2. In the men’s qualifying match, Liam Draxl of Newmarket, Ontario defeated Austria’s Filip Marsolic 6-2, 6-2.
Mboko joins Bianca Andreescu, the 17th seed in Mississauga, Ontario, and Marina Stakusic, the 24th seed in Mississauga and Californian Carson Branstine, who represented Canada internationally in the second round of qualifying.
Andreescu faces Japan’s Nao Hibino, Stakusic plays Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch, and Branstine meets Switzerland’s tenth seed Rebeka Masarova on Wednesday.
Also on Tuesday, Ottawa’s top seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe advanced to the semifinals of De Strasbourg, beating Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and Xu Yifan 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. Dabrowski and Routliffe will face Brazil’s Luisa Stefani and Timea Babos on Thursday.
Montreal’s sixth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime faces Germany’s David Altmaier in the first round of the Hamburg Open.
