Canada’s M’Boko loses to Muchova in Miami Open quarterfinals

Canada’s Victoria Mboko was eliminated from the WTA 1000 event for the second time this year by Czech Karolina Muchova.

Muchova beat Mboko 7-5, 7-6 (5) in a tight quarterfinal at the Miami Open on Tuesday.

The Czech veteran got the only break of the match after tying the match at 30 points in the first set to take a 6-5 lead.

She then saved a set point in the second set and won the tiebreaker, converting match point on serve.

Mboko reached the quarterfinals of her third consecutive 1000-level event, having lost to Muchova in the final of the TotalEnergies Open in Qatar last month.

She also advanced to the quarterfinals in Indian Wells, California earlier this month before losing to No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

The 19-year-old from Burlington, Ont., entered Miami ranked ninth in the world and reached the quarterfinals in Miami to improve his season record to 19-6.
