Canada’s Leylah Fernandez loses to Jessica Pegula at Miami Open

There’s one less Canadian at the Canadian Open.
Leylah Fernandez lost to fifth-seeded American Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-2 in the third round on Sunday.
Fernandez, the 26th seed from Montreal, had only two chances to break serve, but failed to break serve both times. She was broken four times in straight sets.
Pegula easily won the round of 64 and will next face the winner between No. 11 Ekaterina Alexandrova and No. 34 Jacqueline Cristian.
Fernandez will return to the court later on Sunday to compete in the doubles with Venus Williams.
Her loss leaves Felix Auger-Aliassime and Victoria Mboko as the only Canadian players still competing in singles at the 1,000-level event.
