Victoria Mboko wins in straight sets again at Miami Open

Canada’s Victoria Mboko is heading into the third round of the women’s singles at the Miami Open.

Mboko, the No. 10 seed from Burlington, Ont., defeated Russia’s Anastasia Zakharova 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday. On Friday, Mboko, who won last year’s National Bank Open in Montreal, needed just 59 minutes to defeat Russia’s Anna Blinkova 6-2, 6-0.

On Saturday, Mboko had four aces and five double faults. However, she converted three of her six break opportunities.

In the first round, No. 26 seed Leila Fernandez from Laval, Quebec defeated Russian player Oksana Selehmeteva 7-6(1), 3-6, 6-1.

In the men’s event, seventh-seeded Montrealer Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics 7-6 (3), 7-5. The Canadian, who had a bye in the first round, had six aces but only committed one double fault, while Fucovic had four aces from six remaining.

Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo was scheduled to face No. 31 seed Ugo Humbert of France later Saturday.
