Canada’s Leylah Fernandez has yet to leave Florida.
The Montreal native advanced to the third round at the Miami Open on Saturday, defeating Russia’s Oksana Selekhmeteva 7-6(1), 3-6, 6-1.
The 23-year-old Fernandez hit three aces in the victory and converted five of 10 break point opportunities.
The 26th-ranked player will next face fifth-ranked American Jessica Pegula.
Later Saturday, fellow Canadians Victoria Mboko, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo also took part.
