Wimbledon introduces video review of six courts at this year’s tournament

LONDON – Wimbledon will use video review technology for the first time at this year’s tournament, the All England Club announced Saturday.

The oldest Grand Slam tennis tournament will feature technology on Center Court, Court One (the club’s second largest stadium) and four other performance venues.

Players will be allowed to review specific calls made by the referee – such as a double bounce.

Video commentary makes its Grand Slam tennis debut at the 2023 US Open. The technology is also used at the Australian Open.

Center Court and Court 1 will provide video replay throughout matches starting on June 29, and the technology will be used on Courts 2, 3, 12 and 18 for singles matches.

There is no limit to the number of reviews a player can request.

Video review is separate from the electronic line call used to determine whether the ball is in or out.

Last year, Wimbledon replaced line referees with electronic line calling, although this was not without its problems.

The grass court pro also added visual indicators of electronic line calls to the scoreboard, showing “out” and “error” calls.

“This enhancement follows feedback from the introduction of live electronic line calling last year,” the All England Club said in a statement on Saturday.
