Canada’s Shapovalov loses to Van der Zande Schulp at Miami Open

Canada’s Denis Shapovalov lost to Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the Miami Open on Thursday.
Shapovalov, from Richmond Hill, Ontario, finally lost in 1 hour and 31 minutes after fighting hard for four match points.
Qualifier Liam Draxel of Newmarket, Ont., was scheduled to face France’s Quentin Harries at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens later in the day.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo from Montreal also competed in the main draw of the Masters 1000 tournament.
The women’s singles draw includes Victoria Mboko of Burlington, Ont., and Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Que.
The competition will last until March 29th.
