Canada’s Auger-Aliassime loses to Phils in Indian Wells

Canadian tennis star Felix Auger-Aliassime was eliminated in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after losing 6-3, 7-6 (9) to France’s Arthur Fels.

The 21-year-old Fiers, seeded No. 30 in the 1,000-level event, won 83 percent of her service points and faced no break points in the first set.

Ninth-seeded Montrealer Auger-Aliassime put more pressure on Fiers’ serve in the second set but converted only one of four break points.

When Auger-Aliassime missed on match point, Fiers beat his chest in victory.

Fiers will next face the winner between German fourth seed Alexander Zverev and American 21st seed Frances Tiafoe.

No. 10 seed Victoria Mboko of Toronto will face sixth seed Amanda Anisimova of the United States in the women’s round of 16 later on Tuesday.

In doubles, Auger-Aliassime and American Sebastian Korda will face Russian players Karen Khachanov and Andrei Rublev in the men’s round of 16. Ottawa’s Gabriella Dabrowski and Brazil’s Luisa Stefani will face Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the United States and Cristina Busa of Spain in the women’s quarterfinals.
